 LIVE AS CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT WITH FULL CONTROL. 

 Ephesians 5:8

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.

Salvation is to save. You have salvation because you were saved. But saved from what?. Saved from the ignorance and the traps of the evil ones. Then brought to what? You were brought to light. Light of knowledge of the truth and knowledge of RIGHTEOUSNESS.

This means that being saved or having salvation is not being free from sin. It means that you have the power to overcome sin. You have the knowledge to overcome sin. You have Christ near you for help.
You were once in darkness. This physically means that you still remember the things you did while you were in darkness. Scientifically, those memories have not gone anywhere. Though the soul has been washed clean. We cannot say that since Christ saved you, He deleted all the memories and you no longer remember. You do remember. And this is the reason as to the verse starts by commending us that since we are now into the light, we should now live as children of the light. Behind that verse, it means that it is well known as a fact that we are capable of going back to our former wrong deeds. But though we are capable of doing that, we shouldn't. We should not let the memories flash back and forth of our minds. But we should let the mind of light and righteousness flash in the mind.

The fruits of light are goodness , love kindness, gentleness self control, joy. In the darkness, there were no such thing as love, kindness. There was hatred, and uncontrollable souls. But in light...there is self control. Live as a self controlled soul. Self control means the same thing we just talked about. It means that your mind is capable of declining to the wrong and to unrighteousness, but you have to control it to have righteousness prevail. It is like driving a car, you well know that if not controlled, it is capable of going to the wrong direction...and thus you have to control it to have what is right prevailing. Some car accidents occur after the driver/ the controller lost self control. 
Many Christians have backslidden because they lost the self control. We have to be at guard and self controlled. We have to consciously control our minds, our lives. We have to mindfully live as children of the light.
