CLEANLINESS IS GODLINESS

Deuteronomy 23:12-14

Designate a place outside the camp where you can go to relieve yourself. As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement. For the Lord your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you.

   There are so many things that people have been taught about what will help them get closer to God. Of course they teach about being pure in the spirit and praying all time. They teach about being a righteous person and that we should love our neighbors as we do love ourselves. That such righteous acts will retain God within our ever wanting souls.
But there are a number of things that God deals with that if contrary, could reduce His engagement to a minimal level. But we don't want to have God's engagement at the minimal level. We want to have Him to the fullest of what we should have.
The Bible talks of the things that God associates. It says that God is a God of order and that means being disorderly and without rules minimizes His engagement. It means that He will be within but not as much He could if there was order and smooth rules in a system of people.

And among that also, cleanliness is next to godliness.
Can you imagine clearly what the above verse has said about the presence of God. That if the Israelites didn't keep their camps and area of residence clean and free from excretions , the Lord would not dwell amongst them.
There is something to learn from this verse. 

God in His glory does not have litter all over His palace. There is smartness that attracts more and more glories. In His chambers, He resides in clean environments that are pleasing and inherently flowing. He of course will not demand that standard here , but will still demand us to be at our best in cleanliness. Some homes have lost the Spirit of God simply because they are dirty and disorderly. The environment of such drives in a dirty mindset and a dirty spirit that drives away the Spirit of God. Some churches have lost members and the Spirit is operating at the minimal ; simply because the church compound is all bushy and that even inside is all littered and dirty. Even the pastor has had personal clothes that have been long ever since they saw water and are smelly. That will drive away the Spirit of God. It keeps off progress ,the flow of power and the glory of heaven.
There are small things that we should embrace even with our own bodies. Keeping them clean and having an environment that satisfies yourself first, then others and then God.
